Cabinet of American Prim Curiosities

One of two Cabinet of Curiosities created for Christmas 2015 this lovely Cabinet is based on one of my favourite styles of American Prim Country. I decorated the Cabinet before assembly. To create this "Wood" Cabinet effect , I firstly coloured all the pieces with a Furniture Touch Up Pen, then literally drew the Grain on using a Brown Sharpie and Fine Black Pen. Keep all the lines going in one direction for a realistic effect, occasionally adding a few "Knot" type swirls. This takes a little while, but just play a favourite piece of music and enjoy the process! Then Assemble the Cabinet, sponge the edges with Walnut Stain, (I used a flat headed paint brush to brush the stain into all the corners of the shelves), and your good to go :-)

I have again used our Mini Skates but this time I coloured the Boot with Brown Sharpie and inked the edges with Ranger Distress Ink Walnut Stain. The blades where dry brushed with Pinflair Rust-It, left to dry, then a little Pinflair Glitter Paste "Aqua" was dabbed on for a Verdigris effect. I also dabbed some Aqua onto the Metal Snowflake to co-ordinate with the Skates :-) The Rusty Bell was threaded with a piece of Prim Fabric and String. Also shown is one of our Leaf Buttons and some Mini Round Buttons.

On the Back of the Top Shelf in the corner I attached our Country Primitives Button. In the Button Holes I added 4 metal brad heads that I painted with the Rust-It. The Mini Cotton Reels where purchased on Amazon UK. I decorated each, adding Ribbon, String, and DMC Embroidery Thread. Little squares of Fabric where folded and one was bound with Ribbon. The Trees and Snowflake from our Winter Pack and the Prim Hand and Heart from our Prim Pack 2 are all edged with Walnut Stain. I filled a little Bottle with Red Bells and Rusty Bells and aged the Cork again with the Walnut Stain.

Yup, Robins again, sorry can't resist these cute little guys!! This Robin also has a Rusty Heart placed under his Wing from Trudy Anne Designs. I also couldn't resist making another Book for my shelf and another Candle. The Book is a mini Bible and the Candle was again created from Air Dry Fimo Clay. Once it was dry I coloured it with my Red Sharpie and rubbed a little Pinflair Buff-It on to give it a more Lustrous Waxy look. The Mini Sledge was decorated the same way as the Mini Skates. I've added a little Twig Bundle, simply little Twigs from the Garden bound with String :-) The Berry Basket at the back of the third shelf was created by cutting Berries from a Xmas Spray which I then stuck above our Basket Button.

The Christmas tree in this Cabinet was straight out the box. I pulled it of the base with pliers and stuck it in a Dolls House Flower Pot :-) The same Berries as I used in the basket where again cut from a Xmas Spray and attached with Glue. Behind the Tree I placed a "Barn Star", a fitting Star for my Tree I think. These where traditionally placed on Barns in America to bring Good Fortune, available in our Prim Pack 2. Also pictured is our Prim Star Craftwood Shape, edged with Ranger Distress Ink Walnut Stain & decorated with a Twig Heart, Rusty Bell and Gingham Ribbon.

So finally our Little Cabinet in all it's Glory :-) Also shown here on the bottom shelf is a little Snowman I made from Fimo Air Dry Clay. Simple to make, just sponged with White Gesso, sprinkled with Cosmic Shimmer Glitter Jewels "Diamond Sprinkles", Rusty Wire for the arms, Brad Heads dry brushed with Rust-It for his Buttons, Black Wire Heads cut from Earring Findings for his Eyes & finally a Carrot Nose made from the end of a Cocktail Stick, sanded round at the end, and coloured with an Orange Sharpie.
